The PERFECT Fantasy // REVIEW: The Wells Of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson (Mistborn #2)

The Well of Ascension (Mistborn, #2)Title: The Wells Of Ascension (Mistborn, #2)
Author: Brandon Sanderson
Publication Date: December 10th 2009
Publisher: Gollancz
Part of a Series?: Yes, Book 2/3 of the Mistborn Trilogy
I Got A Copy Through: Hachette India (THANK YOU!)
Blurb Description: From #1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson, the Mistborn series is a heist story of political intrigue and magical, martial-arts action.
The impossible has been accomplished. The Lord Ruler -- the man who claimed to be god incarnate and brutally ruled the world for a thousand years -- has been vanquished. But Kelsier, the hero who masterminded that triumph, is dead too, and now the awesome task of building a new world has been left to his young protégé, Vin, the former street urchin who is now the most powerful Mistborn in the land, and to the idealistic young nobleman she loves.
As Kelsier's protégé and slayer of the Lord Ruler she is now venerated by a budding new religion, a distinction that makes her intensely uncomfortable. Even more worrying, the mists have begun behaving strangely since the Lord Ruler died, and seem to harbor a strange vaporous entity that haunts her.
Stopping assassins may keep Vin's Mistborn skills sharp, but it's the least of her problems. Luthadel, the largest city of the former empire, doesn't run itself, and Vin and the other members of Kelsier's crew, who lead the revolution, must learn a whole new set of practical and political skills to help. It certainly won't get easier with three armies – one of them composed of ferocious giants – now vying to conquer the city, and no sign of the Lord Ruler's hidden cache of atium, the rarest and most powerful allomantic metal.
As the siege of Luthadel tightens, an ancient legend seems to offer a glimmer of hope. But even if it really exists, no one knows where to find the Well of Ascension or what manner of power it bestows.
I honestly have NO idea why I waited so long after finishing The Final Empire (Book One) in this beautiful trilogy before starting this one, but it has been over a month. I just guess that these books are long, and with the stress of college submissions, I just didn’t find the time to pick it up.
Which is to say that well, despite the wait, I AM SO IN LOVE WITH THIS BOOK I CANNOT FUNCTION PROPERLY.

What’s this about, you ask?

You know how most trilogies start with a tyrannical ruler to overthrow, a rebellion to win and a certain Prince and an unwitting princess to fall in forbidden love and they usually end with everyone being happy?

Well, The Wells of Ascension is what comes AFTER that happen ending…

After a thousand years of oppression under a ruler who is now gone, The Final Empire is in chaos. Warlords have over taken the various dominances, declaring themselves Kings and are now on their way to the centre of it all – the capital – Elend Venture’s new kingdom.

Inside Luthandel, the people that now run the city were once criminals, trying to learn the ropes of running a kingdom headed by an idealistic nobleman. Vin and Elend themselves struggle to figure out what it means to be a Mistborn Weapon to a young king and their changing roles while trying to understand what their people need.

TRUTH BE TOLD, this book, is EVERYTHING THE FANTASY WORLD NEEDS. I adore the sheer precision and details that go into every novel Brandon Sanderson writes. There is this passive, slow paced writing that if you give it the chance, will leave you hooked, unable to function without the characters or the world.

I ADORE the characters. Every single person that had a viewpoint or even talked about someone else was SO WELL ROUNDED – their flaws, their personalities, their loves and dislikes were so well done and well, I feel like I know them like I know my own family.

Elend and Vin, together, had the ability to make me feel all the feels and also break my heart because they were just SO DARN CUTE TOGETHER. I loved reading about (and feeling) all the ups and downs of their relationship as they tried to work on being with each other and also being powerful Mistborn and King. I ADORE THEM.
"The most powerful Mistborn of the skaa underground, and the most noble leader of the aristovratic culture. They needed each other, and the Final Empire needed them both."
More than anything else, I feel like this world is BEAUTIFUL. The power, the politics, the ideals and the people will leave you desperate for more.

A brilliantly executed, perfect fantasy that realistically portrays what happens after the fabled happy ever after. You will fall in love with everything about this series – the people, the power, the games and the story and I could not recommend it more.

5 Stars.

Top Ten Books I Felt #AllTheFeels For In 2016 (Top Ten Tuesday #22)

Hi Guys!
IT'S THE HOLIDAYS! (yes, I do state the obvious) and I do hope you received ALL THE THINGS on your Christmas Wishlists and that it was a time of Books, Delicious Food and Happiness.

2016 has been an AMAZING bookish year so far - it was the first year I REALLY threw myself into blogging (despite starting in 2014) and I surpassed my Goodreads Reading Challenge by reading 165/ 125 Books and well, I've loved every minute of it.

Which is why it is SO HARD to choose my Top Ten Books in 2016 that I would still totally , but here goes ANYWAY. Oh, by the way, I definitely recommend these reads to you!
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the lovely ladies over at The Broke and The Bookish.

A Court of Mist and Fury (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #2)THIS BOOK SLAYED ME, OKAY? S-L-A-Y-E-D ME. I felt all the feels for MONTHS, and all the fan art and the memes still make me laugh and the sequel, A Court of Wings and Ruin, is only my MOST anticipated book of 2017. Truth be told, I didn't even like the first book, A Court of Thorns and Roses that much, and I wasn't that excited for this one but ACK. LOVE. ALL THE WAY.
Glass Sword (Red Queen, #2) 2. Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard
I TECHNICALLY read this book from the last day of 2015 to the first day in 2016, so IT DEFINITELY COUNTS, but this book is BEAUTIFUL.

I had actual dreams about the contents of this book, and I CANNOT wait for King's Cage to hit shelves in a few weeks, and CAN I JUST GET A TIME MACHINE ALREADY?
Rebel of the Sands (Rebel of the Sands, #1)THIS BOOK IS SO BADASS AND SASSY AND SEXY AND IT HAS EVERYTHING YOU EVER WANT IN A BOOK. Move over Aelin Galynthis, SERIOUSLY. (I never know how to spell her name) I am SO BEYOND excited for the sequel, Traitor To The Throne, (both the covers are so beautiful and ACK.)

Only Ever Yours4. Only Ever Yours by Louise O'Neill

THIS BOOK EMBODIES EVERYTHING THAT IS WRONG WITH BODY IMAGE IN OUR SOCIETY AND IT IS AMAZING. Set in the future where girls are genetically made to be perfect companions for the boys, and they're trained for the sole purpose of being perfect.

I could not recommend this more.
Warrior Witch (The Malediction Trilogy, #3)5. Warrior Witch by Danielle Jensen
THE ENDING OF THIS SERIES WAS POSITIVELY HEARTBREAKING. I was on vacation with my friends when I finished it and I PRETTY MUCH SCREAMED in frustration and also cried at the utter heartbreaking-ness of it all.
This series will leave you in love, and NOW THERE'S A PREQUEL COMING. I am so so excited.
The Serpent King 6. The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner
I bought the Kindle edition of this book and after hearing ALL the good things about the book, I decided to give it a try which ended in my curled up in my comforter, sobbing because it was SO LYRICALLY BEAUTIFUL.

I adore Travis, Dill and Lydia and their story of growing up, moving up and life broke my heart and I cannot wait to read his next book, Goodbye Days.
The Novice (Summoner, #1) 7. The Summoner Series by Taran Matharu
I got review copies of this series from the lovely folks over at Hachette India, and I FELL IN LOVE. This had equality and teamwork and RACISM in a fantasy novel combined with kingdoms and war and demons.

I LOVED the story, I loved Fletcher, his demons and all his friends and I cannot wait for the conclusion to this trilogy, The Battlemage.
Poison Princess (The Arcana Chronicles, #1) 8. The Arcana Chronicles by Kresley Cole
A Tarot Card Based Game, with re-incarnated teenagers with powers fighting a life and death game with immortality as the prize and en epic romance in the middle?

This is one INSANE series, with even better characters with powers that will shock you and let me assure you, YOU WILL BE ADDICTED. DO START READING IT.
Tiny Pretty Things (Tiny Pretty Things, #1) 9. Tiny Pretty Things by Sona Charaipotra and Dhonielle Clayton
Truth be told, I didn't expect this book to affect me so much, but this book was three girls at their best and at their worst in a highly competitive environment and it was such a deep insight into fictional human beings' minds and AAAH. I'm waiting for the paperback of Shiny Broken Pieces to complete my collection though!

LOVE. GO READ IT.
Nevernight (The Nevernight Chronicle, #1)Want the most brutal and bloody book you've ever come upon that will make you laugh and hope for the best even though you realistically know nothing will end well in a world of master assassins? Yes, welcome to Nevernight. I adored Jay Kristoff's dark humour and murder sprees and everything else about this.

This is the 15th episode of ReMade, a 15-episode serial from Serial Box Publishing. This episode was written by Kiersten White.

Things move quickly after Holden initiates the shutdown sequence of Arcadia. True, they have a map – though to what they aren’t quite sure.

Let's be honest, I'm only a one little bookdragon who would gladly die under the weight of her TBR Pile and who has NO SELF CONTROL when it comes to books. So, it doesn't come as a surprise to me (and it probably to you as well) when I say that well, I binge read through these last two #ReMade episodes SO FAST, I have no idea how to differentiate the both of them.

Hence, the joint review.

I started this series out in September when it released after the lovely people over at Serial Box Publishing, asked me to read and review it on here. WELL, HOW COULD I RESIST? Book EPISODES? That's like my two favourite pass times COMBINED!

Both of these Episodes were WOAH. Fast paced, intense and filled with this FEAR coursing through you, wondering what would happen to the teens, whether they would be attacked by the caretakers, would they leave the city, if they did, would they even make it out? BASICALLY, THERE WERE A LOT OF QUESTIONS. And while we got the answers, ReMade ends of a HUGE cliffhanger that will leave you DYING for season two.

Oh, and also, a PARTICULAR PERSON that I loved dies (no spoilers) and my HEART IS BROKEN. I don't think I've quite processed it, because it happened in the final scene, but DAMN this character was one of the BEST. *cries*

All in all, this is one series DEFINITELY  worth immersing yourself into, especially if Dystopian Societies, Survival and The Maze Runner are your thing!

ReMade is a serial presented episodically in 15 parts by Serial Box Publishing.

Stacking The Shelves #24 - The One Where I Sort-Of Broke My Book-Buying Ban

Hi Everyone!
Last Sunday, my WONDERFUL Friends decided to come home and well, surprise me for my birthday (which went away three months ago. #punctuality) and for my "birthday" gift, they gave me an Amazon Gift Card.

While I do appreciate the thought, I waited three months for an OH SO THOUGHTFUL... Gift Card? I guess I'm just wishing they TRIED MORE, but well, I got to buy books while I only SORT OF broke my ban?

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by the bloggers at Tynga's Reviews and over the last week, I bought:

BOUGHT:

One1. One by Sarah Crossan:
I'm absolutely in LOVE with the way this sounds - conjoined sisters and the lives they lead. I've heard that this book will break my heart and that I will never read a book like this and so I HAD TO OWN IT.

REALLY REALLY hoping it lives up to the hype.

The Guy Next Door (Boy, #1)2. The Boy Next Door by Meg Cabot:

There was an AWESOME sale on Amazon where all these books were for about 140 rupees (around $2) for paperbacks and ACK. Which self-respecting bookworm could EVER pass up on a deal like that?

I also recently read Book 4 in The Boy series, The Boy Is Back, which I LOVED and I knew I needed to own the rest of it.

Boy Meets Girl (Boy, #2)3. Boy Meets Girl by Meg Cabot

This was ALSO a $2 deal and ACK. I adore all Meg Cabot books- they're such light, easy reads and WHO can pass them up.

I have a vague recollection of reading this book when I was twelve, but then I don't think I understood ANYTHING, so hopefully soon, I'll be giving it a read.

Every Boy's Got One (Boy, #3)4. Every Boy's Got One by Meg Cabot:

Same as above, except I think that this one sounds THE BEST of all. I absolutely love cynic-y boys and this one has exactly that.

SURPRISE MAIL:

So, my best friend moved away to do his Undergrad in the US which was super sad, until I realized I could send all kings of US mail to him. The first thing I sent him was my CROOKED KINGDOM PRE-ORDER SWAG and after he didn't receive it for months, I thought for sure it was lost, until yesterday, when he handed me this shiny gold bubble mailer and I SQUEALED!

The Package Contained:

2. A Pouch with Crooked Kingdom embossed in Gold
3. Crooked Kingdom DICE GAME!
- These have all the characters on the six sides of the dice over standard numbers
4. Rules to play the Dice Game

ACK. Swag from the Grishaverse was ON MY CHRISTMAS WISHLIST, and I am SO BEYOND HAPPY WITH IT.

What did you stack onto your shelves this week?
I can't wait to check out your stacks this week, so please do leave me your links!
Also, have a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!
